Proud City Hiyoshi is a sustainable, multi-generational community development in Kanagawa Prefecture, built by Nomura Real Estate. Designed with the vision of creating an urban compact town “that will last for 100 years,” this 5.4-hectare project seamlessly integrates modern residential apartments with commercial facilities, serviced senior housing, and a new elementary school. By combining smart home technology with expansive community spaces, Proud City Hiyoshi connects multiple generations while setting a new standard for modern urban living.

Residential units and town amenities
The 1,318 residential units are a nine-minute walk from Hiyoshi Station and private Keio University’s Kanagawa prefecture campus. Proud City Hiyoshi comprises three residential buildings: I, II and III. The commercial facilities consist of Sokora Hiyoshi, Megalos Hiyoshi, the serviced senior housing Oukas Hiyoshi and Be ACTO Hiyoshi. The new elementary school is on the southeast corner, farthest from the station. The overall scheme is designed to connect the previous community with the new one and service multiple generations residing in an urban compact town.
The exteriors of the three residential buildings feature varying colors and designs to appear as separate structures, despite being connected. Darker colors were used for the lower floors and lighter shades for the upper floors.

Space integrated into the community
The developer, Nomura Real Estate, stated the goal of the project is to foster residents’ attachment to their neighborhood. The Be ACTO facility, the first in a Proud development, is designed to support an open community space for residents, surrounding townspeople, government, businesses and other community members.
The developer owns the common areas, which are open to the wider public as “common spaces for the town,” such as the “Kichijitsu Gakko” (Auspicious Day School). The site features pedestrian plazas and green spaces. The Central Plaza serves as a hub for intergenerational interaction, a playground and a disaster prevention base. But while the outdoor plazas are designed to foster community connection, the private residences focus heavily on modern convenience and security.
Smart home features
Each of the three buildings features an entrance hall designed to be a high-quality space for welcoming guests. Proud City Hiyoshi’s I, II, and III halls are open and provide ample views of the plaza.
Nomura Real Estate also introduced a proprietary app, “Will TAP,” for the development. The app provides centralized remote management for locking doors, filling water heaters, controlling air conditioners and underfloor heating and turning on lights. Condominium management details and event information from Be ACTO can also be accessed through the app.
Local schools: Nihon University junior and senior high
Beyond the high-tech sustainability, however, the appeal of this urban compact town extends beyond its property lines, particularly for families drawn to the historic schools right next door.
Directly behind Proud City Hiyoshi are the campuses of Nihon University’s senior and junior high schools, founded on March 31, 1930, and relocated to the present campuses in 1947. Nihon University is one of Japan’s largest universities.
Originally an all-boys school, the senior high school started accepting female students in 1999 and the junior high in 2002. Renovations included the main building and general gymnasium in 2005, the clubhouse in 2006, the artificial turfs from 2006 to 2008 and Sakura Hall and its connecting corridor in 2007.
The high school offers special advanced placement classes, while the junior high school provides a global leaders course. The junior high’s student body is around 640, while the senior high numbers over 1,400.

A local institution: Keio University
Adding to the area’s rich educational landscape is Keio University, located just across from Hiyoshi Station. Their Kanagawa prefecture campus is located across from Hiyoshi Station and features a gingko-lined avenue. Covering about 360,000 square meters (3.8 million square feet) on a hilltop, the university houses seven faculties and three specialized graduate schools.
Established in 1858 by Yukichi Fukuzawa, Keio is Japan’s first private institution of higher learning. The university’s motto is “jitsugaku,” or empirical science. It promotes multidisciplinary research under three initiatives: “Longevity, Security and Creativity.”
And it is precisely this environment of longevity and security that aligns with the core philosophy of the developer.
The developer states the Proud brand is built on five values:
- Safety and security
- Functionality and comfort
- Design that deepens with time
- Responding to the environment and the future
- Escort to a richer life
